Tane Mahuta and Kereru
The theme of this mosaic draws upon the Maori mythology.Tane Mahuta(Kauri Tree) is lord of the forest and he gave rise to all the birds and insects.Later he became sun god.His friend is Kereru which in Maori means a wood pigeon.This mosaic of 3m in diameter was installed at Wilson School in Takapuna,Auckland which is a school for disabled children.The school building has won a major architectural award in New Zealand and was designed by Opus Architects.
